Hi all,

"Link Popularity" is dead, long live "Domain Popularity"!

It is always interesting to read newsletters about SEO like the Abakus newsletter #6 where in the english version this "slogan" can be found.

The fact that domain popularity is now more important then multiple links from one domain is actually already a long time a fact.

When looking some while ago to the serps we could all notice that many subdomains did score well..

How come....easy explained know this fact.

There are webmasters who create a site with a lot filenames in the main domain and you have webmasters who build for each page a subdomain and put one page on it.

These one page subdomains will be treated like seperate domains linked to each other and for this reason they score well.

The reason why google treats those subdomains like seperate domains comes also from the fact that some tld's use the com.ltd net.tld as additional extention so i don't think that this will change on a short term.

I could on the other hand imagine that the next step from Google will be looking at the IP's from domains to see if it should be treated like a sub or a real domain. In case of a sub these links could also be counted as one.

Building up now a site has 2 options...
The site with many subpages
The site with many subdomains.

For now i think the last one will be better when looking at Google...but for how long.

Another factor that should be considered is the new BETA MSN...
Fast ...for sure...and like Alan did mention ...something to keep in mind.

My vision...

Because link popularity can be also manipulated by people who have money i don't think that this will stay permanently important.

I think also that this is why others like MSN and Yahoo don't depend on it to much like google does now.

Like to hear the others on this matter...does not have to be english...

Ich vermute mal die Billigdomains werden einfach nur so gut gerank weil sich die authotiry der Hauptdomain auch auf die Subdomain auswirkt. Das würde gegen die Theorie sprechen das die Subdomains als eigenständig angesehen werden. Auch die verlinkung innerhalb diser Subdomains hat wohl wenig sinn, weil alle die gleiche IP haben.

Wir haben recht eindeutige Testversuche, die belegen das sich das Ranking von diesen Billigdomains nicht aus Linkpopularity sondern vielmehr duch authority zustandekommt. Man optimiere eine Seite auf das Keyword K1 und Setze links mit dem key K2 darauf. Sobald die domain Ihr Alter erreicht ist die seite unter k1 zu finden.

Ein Ende der Subdomains ist aber schon jetzt zu ersehen. In den letzen Wochen gab es bereits eine Rückstufung im Ranking der Subdomains. Ich vermute mal das sich diser Trend noch weiter verstärken wird. Die meisen Subdomains sind eben nur DWP, das weiss auch Google.

Es geht nicht nur um Geld sondern auch um eine erfolgreiche Investition dieses Geldes. Es ist eben viel einfacher an der On-Site-Optimierung zu arbeiten, anstatt tausende links zu kaufen. Gerade weil wir sonst in Zeiten der DWP-Generatoren nur noch Spam in den Serps sehen würden, das auch noch mit recht geringem Aufwand entstanden ist.

Ich kann mir eingelich kaum Vorstellen das MS wirklich mit diser BETA an den Start gehen will. Das Prinzip der "Domain Popularity" ist eben gerade dort noch nicht umgesetzt worden

also ich muss mal eins sagen .de.vu domain sind hundertfach besser gerankt als die subdomain meiner Seiten das stimmt 100% leider ist das auch mit Servern so... also auf großen Servern hatte ich als Reseller Spitzenplätze und auf meinem jetztigen eigenen Server bin ich soweit unten wie noch nie das ist schon seltsam..

Hm,

einerseits ist mit der (Domain)Linkpopularität so das grade die mit besonders starken Content-Seiten durch freiwillig gesetzte Links profitieren und andererseits sich viele durch gekaufte Links in die SERPs einkaufen können.
andererseits wenn man nun sehr stark auf On-Site-Optimierungen setzt beim Algo, erhöht das die Chancen des Durchschnitts-Webmasters (der kein SEO betreibt), andererseits macht es DWP-Spam deutlich einfacher und Suchmaschinen-Spam billiger.

Ich glaube nicht das der 2. Weg zu einer erfolgreicheren Suchmaschine führen würde.

Interessante Diskussion hier. Ich selbst denke, dass die Domain Popularity immer wichtiger wird bzw. werden wird.
Zum Aspekt "normaler Webmaster" einfach ein fiktives Beispiel:
Ein normaler Webmaster, erstellt Informations Seiten zum Thema "Kebap" und promotet diese nun minimal bzw. wenn er guten Inhalt hat wird er von anderen verlinkt-> Domain Popularity. Somit hat dieser nun auch etwas erreicht
Wo wir gerade beim Thema Domain Popularity sind, dazu eine interessante Beobachtung, auch zur On the Page.
Eine Unterseite meines Suma Webs war vor 2-3 tagen noch auf #102 für das keyword Domain Popularity. Nachdem ich in den vergangenen Tagen einige sehr feine Links bekommen habe (danke!) bin ich nun auf #9, nachdem ich die Keyword Dichte nochmal nach unten gesetzt hatte.

Ich denke also, wenn genügend gute Links von Authority Seiten bzw. generell ein gutes Linknetz, möglichst natürlich, von außen steht, dann geht einiges.

Das Ziel von Google ist es meiner Meinung, sehr gute SERPs zu liefern. Wenn man aber nun ähnliche IPs weniger werten würde, dann würde das keinen Sinn machen
Shared Hosting zum Beispiel kann zu vielen ähnlichen Domains führen. Natürlicher Linkaufbau aus mehreren Netzen, bzw. das was man bei heise sieht.. unmengen an links von unmengen an themenseiten..

wo ist die alternative zur linkpop? onpage? das glaubt doch wohl niemand, dass das das seo-geschäft irgendwie erschwert...

Das ist ja ein derzeitiger Googlebug, der wohl nicht allzulange Bestand haben dürfte ... je geringer die KW Dichte (am besten 0%) je stärker wirken die BL's. Sagen wir mal so, dass ist sicher ein gewollter Googlebug für eine gewisse Zeit

If you create now a site with 500 one page subdomains connected
to eachother then you will score well on top words...

It will score much better then the same 500 pages inside one site because of the domain link popularity thing.

I can't imagine that if all webmasters build up the sites like that, that google will not take measures to prevent it again by IP limitations.

I would not say that LP will be completely excluded...for sure not...but the way the links are evaluated might sure change in the near future.

It are not the de.vu domains that make a difference...it is the link connection between them that makes subdomains stronger because they are linked like an OUTBOUND LINK.

Having a site with 100 subdomains....linked together will give Google the impression of a domain with many inbound links....creating each subdomain for a specific theme or even a word does give the boost from all other subs.

Yep..that is confirmed...

Sites that give a link to a certain site are shown in the serps with the linktext....(same with the linked site above)

The linked sites do contain only the word in this link...that makes it strange...because it means linktext is very high evaluated.

This depends ofcourse also about the competition in that query how
high this page is ranked.
